On Thursday 20th September 2018, James and I flew from Gatwick to Orlando International Airport for a two week trip to Walt Disney World and Universal.
We caught the train to the north terminal the night before and stayed at the Premier Inn which is situated just across the road. We dropped the bags off around 8:30 on the morning of our flight and made our way to Whether spoons for an avo toast breakfast; I then left James behind so that I could go for a bit of a mooch around duty free. We actually flew on the day that the Snow White and Cath Kidston collab launched so I may have made a couple of pre-holiday purchases!
Our flight was called and we were aboard ‘The Pretty Woman’ in good time. The flight felt like it passed relatively quickly, I’ve never flown with Virgin Atlantic before but I came out feeling that it was a fantastic service. The staff were really attentive and were often circulating around the flight with drinks and snacks.
The entertainment on board was also really good, I watched Black Panther, Love Simon and finished off the flight with Frozen because you’ve got to watch a Disney classic when you’re bound for the Magic Kingdom!
We touched down and were through security and waiting for our bus in 90 minutes which I’ve heard is quite good for MCO, especially considering all of the building works that are currently taking place. I had to stop for the obligatory Instagram wall pose at the airport. It was the first of many; James was very patient on this trip.
We checked into The Clarion Inn at Lake Buena Vista which would be our hotel for the following two weeks and then had a tough decision to make – whether to get an Uber to Disney Springs for dinner or whether to walk to the nearby Millers Alehouse for their amazing zingers. Convenience and Millers won and we kicked our holiday off by sharing a zinger Mountain Melt which was essentially chips smothered by zingers, cheese, bacon and sour cream sauce. It was something that we had been looking forward to since our last trip and it. Was. Delicious.
By the time we finished dinner it was around 2 am UK time and we were seriously flagging so we rolled ourselves back to the hotel and slept ready for our first full day at Epcot!
