Fair warning guys, if you keep reading, you’re going to be hungry!
The first on the list of my little pit stop of food wanderings is The Cow Fish. Located on Universal City Walk, this restaurant presented me with my first opportunity to try fried pickles (something that I’ve always wanted to try) so naturally, I made sure to order. They did not disappoint. Crispy, salty and served with amazing dips. I wish I had some now.
I’m normally drawn towards sushi if I see it on a menu but being in America, I had to go for a burger. The ‘black truffle cheese burger’ was actually one of the few burgers that I ate during my time in the states but it was every bit as glorious as an american cheese burger should be.
‘Beef burger, black truffle cheese, roasted shallots, sautéed mushrooms, roasted garlic aioli, lettuce, brioche bun’….Are you hungry yet?!
While I was checking out places to try before we were actually in Florida, Voodoo Doughnuts seemed to appear repeatedly in people’s social media feeds and YouTube videos. Whenever we were on City Walk, there was always a large queue so we decided to see what all of the fuss was about on one of it’s quieter nights.
These were James’ selection of doughnuts. Mine actually got a little squashed in the box and were thus less photo worthy. Anyway, here we have ‘The Universal Orangesicle’ which legitimately tasted like an orange creamsicle lollipop, ‘Dirt’ which was a cookies and cream flavour and ‘Butterfingering’ which was a chocolate doughnut covered in crushed Butterfingers. They were quite bread-y doughnuts but they were lush.
Inside Diagon Alley in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I couldn’t turn down one of these pumpkin cakes! Unfortunately, I can’t remember the name of the shop where I got it but it’s located next to Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes’ and it cost around $5. It was very flavoursome, like carrot cake with orange frosting. Delish.
I thought that I’d end this post with one of my favourite offsite restaurants ‘Millers Alehouse‘. The prices are super reasonable and the food is amazing. Like most american establishments, the portion sizes are ginormous. The ‘zinger mountain melt’ was the first meal that we had when we got to the states and there was more than enough for both James and I to share this (which we did).
‘Zingers®, Monterey Jack and cheddar cheeses, applewood-smoked bacon and scallions on a mountain of seasoned fries.’
Dirty food at it’s very finest. Can I go back to America now?
